Bangladesh and India signed a cooperation agreement this week, the two sides will cooperate in building an installed capacity of 1320 MW coal-fired power plant, which is both to generate electricity from the power outlet transition cooperation under the Framework Agreement largest bilateral energy cooperation projects.
According to reports, this coal-fired power plant to be built in Bangladesh southwest Rampal, close to Sundarbans National Park. Export-Import Bank of India to provide $ 1.49 billion financing support.
However, the signing of this agreement has caused concern environmentalists. The construction of coal-fired power stations will be possible for the world's largest mangrove forest, which adversely affect the ecological environment of the Sundarbans National Park.
In this regard, both sides said the statement, the construction of new coal-fired power plants must adopt the most advanced environmentally friendly technologies to reduce the impact on the surrounding environment to the maximum extent.
Insiders said that the construction of new coal-fired power plants will also help to increase coal exports to India.
According to the plan, this coal-fired power plant will be put into use in 2019.
