Lions Clubs International, founded in 1917 by American Melvin Jones, is the world's largest service organization. It has 48,000 clubs and 1.5 million members.

2010, People's Republic of China, Beijing 315 Preparatory District was established on March 6, and now has more than 550 Lions.
On August 7, 2011, the Zhejiang Membership Management Committee of the Chinese Lions Clubs met the requirements of the Lions Clubs International Standard District, with 1,326 members in 51 service teams.
On April 4, 2012, the Shenyang Membership Management Committee of the Chinese Federation of Lions completed the creation of the 387 International Standard District.
On June 15, 2012, the Lions Clubs of China Qingdao Membership Management Committee completed the creation of International Standard District 383.
On June 19 of the same year, the Harbin Membership Management Committee of the Lions Clubs of China completed the creation of International Standard District 389.
Lions Clubs International has maintained a good working relationship with the United Nations since its inception in 1945. It was also the non-governmental organization invited to participate in the drafting of the United Nations Charter.
Challenging members to dive in and work hard to help the association grow, at the 1932 International Annual Convention in Los Angeles, International General President Julian Hyer said, "The true spirit of Lionism means practical sacrifice," and Hyer urged Lions not to back down and become a force for good. Lions Clubs International Foundation Grants to Assist Young People After Morocco Earthquake
October 20, 2023 - The Lions Clubs International Foundation (LCIF) quickly allocated $100,000 in major disaster grants to Lions clubs in Morocco to enable them to provide support to those who lost their lives.
"When disaster strikes, Lions are among the first individuals and groups to respond to the needs of those affected," LCIF
President Brian Sheehan said. "Our members live and work in the area and will continue to stand ready to help the community as it continues to rebuild in the wake of this tragedy...LCIF is proud to support their efforts."

Lions Clubs International and the Association of Diabetes Care and Education Professionals form a collaborative alliance
In response to this low level of awareness of prediabetes and diabetes, Lions Clubs International and ADCES will work together to connect Lions/Young Lions in the United States with ADCES diabetes professionals at the community level. Through education, resource sharing, and community events, Lions, Leos, and ADCES members will increase awareness of prediabetes and diabetes, refer people with diabetes to the Diabetes Self-Management Education and Support (DSMES) program, and introduce people with prediabetes to intensive lifestyle change programs that can prevent or delay diabetes.
