Nepal and China have launched a joint development of cross-border transmission lines, paving the way for electricity trade between the two neighbors.
Nepal has said that the Nepal has submitted a draft memorandum of understanding on the joint development of transmission lines between the two countries.
Xinhua News Agency also reported that cross-border transmission lines will pave the way for the two countries' electricity trade.
Nepal's former prime minister, Palo Olli, asked for a 400-kilovolt cross-border transmission line at the Rushwagga-Cologne border during his visit to China last March.
Dinesh Kumar Ghimire, head of Nepal's energy ministry, said: "We are waiting for a response from the Chinese side," a draft of cross-border transmission lines has been sent to China more than four months ago, according to a consensus reached during the visit of former Prime Minister Oliver Oliver. "
In terms of hydroelectric power, Nepal is considered to be one of the most promising countries. Nepal is developing several hydropower projects in the border areas of Nepal and China. The construction of cross-boundary transmission lines will help strengthen cooperation in power trade between the two countries.
