November 6th, the forum for the investment of the power and infrastructure of Rwanda was concluded.
The conference called for the abolition of energy barriers, the introduction of a competition mechanism, and the reduction of electricity prices.
The theme of the forum is to promote national infrastructure and industrial development in the field of private investment, energy experts, investors, financial professionals, and officials, and more than 200 people participated.
At present, the electricity generating capacity in Rwanda is 161.2MW(Of which 97.37 MW of hydropower, thermal power 51.7 MW, and 3.6 MW of biogas power generation).
Expected to increase to 563 MW in 2018 so that more than 70% of the population uses power electricity.
Rwanda is expected complete the construction of a few large power projects by the end of the year, which can increase 61.5 electricity generating capacity.
Rwanda also plans to import 30 MW of electricity from Kenya before the end of the year, and import 400MW of electricity from Ethiopia in 2018.
