Recently, the South African finance minister Nene (NhlanhlaNene), said publicly that the government has reserved 2 billion rands for the development of national every which includes nuclear energy.
He also said South Africa has made good progress about the power shortage crisis.
Nene noted that the Treasury Department is working closely with the Department of energy, trying to solve the challenges of national energy.
This 200million RAND will be prepared as the fund for national energy development, which will not be limited to nuclear energy, but also include other energy.
The Medupi power station owned by South African power companies(Eskom), has resumed in August,2015.which can provide 800 MW power.
To a certain extent, it has improved the situation of the country's frequent power cable blackouts
In order to resolve the financial crisis of Eskom, the South African government previously offload its 23 Billion interest in Vodacom.
In addition, the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of energy are evaluating the bid for nuclear power construction.
As one of the earliest countries to develop nuclear energy, South Africa is the only nation with a nuclear power plant in Africa.
They planned to build 6 to8 new nuclear power units before 2030, and the 9600MW of installed capacity of nuclear power will be increased based on 1800MW. In the next 15 years, 1trillionwill be invested in the development of nuclear power.
Tendering for their projects has been carried out.
