British Energy Authority Ofgem has formally approved the connection of large underground Britain and France - submarine HVDC cable project, the total cost of £ 1.1 billion.
Under the plan, the project will be used in all HVDC laying conducive to environmental protection, namely the underground cables and submarine cables combined nuclear power plant connected to the south of England to the north of France.
Britain said Britain needs a stable, economical clean electricity. Construction of the new HVDC submarine cable is to meet this.
According to reports, the construction of the submarine HVDC project in the construction phase will create 500 jobs, the transmission capacity of 2 GW, enough to meet the electricity needs of four million households, to further improve the nation's energy supply security and diversity.
